Living in any community I always feel the need to give back, if not be a willing member. In Ethiopia, giving back has become big business for many international organisations. But there are many concerned locals spending their time and often money to help their fellow citizens. So, using my skills in photography and visual story telling I have decided to help the small, locally-run organisations to document their work and use the images to garner more help.
This, my first project in photo philanthropy, was taken for a local aid organisation – FIDO with the help of Ethiopiaid Australia. They are concerned with poverty reduction through housing and capacity building (work) schemes. This is their work, located in the outer suburbs of Addis Ababa.
I felt as if I got more out of this photography project than the recipients of the aid did, as they were so warm and inviting, happy to share their home with me.
I look forward to sharing more of these projects with you…
Erin.
