A teacher once said to me that teaching is the profession that helps to create all the others. Not sure what my feelings are on this and I will not digress to posture this point now, sufficed to say that I do believe it is an important profession (just perhaps in need of a different view and structure!). In a little village at the top of a mountain in the Konso hills of southern Ethiopia a school believes this with all their spare roofing and paint.
I don’t believe there is anything you could tell the teachers at this school to make them believe anything else.
And they will not let anyone else believe anything different either…
I didn’t realise that teachers actually had any time to waste in the first place?
If it wasn’t for teachers, who knows what this sign might say!
PS. This is a school with teachers and students that really seem to be doing some really great things. They are permaculture kings, finding ways to involve the parents and community too. So, perhaps these signs are having some impact, somehow? I think there is probably nothing wrong with saying things like this out loud, just never come across it before.
