Beating the sun to the horizon was our aim this morning. In the Namib-Naukluft desert in February, the sun makes a hasty approach towards the horizon, peaking over it around 6.45am. Once it reaches the horizon, the sun bathes the desert in rich red and blue hues.
Just as the dunes have their shapes changed by the winds, so too the colours of the desert change as the sun arches through the sky. From deep reds and blues to pale pinks and greens. The desert is a very dynamic environment. And one that invites you to explore its vast wildness.
Namib-Naukluft desert also supports an array of wildlife. From small dune beetles and lizards to Oryx and Ostrich and this owl.
