Whenever you hear a football match is on, the excitement in the air the day leading up to a game is palpable. There is a flurry of sales on flags, shirts and face paint. Everywhere you look people are more cheerful and colourful.
It was a Sunday afternoon and qualifying for the world cup football was in full swing around the globe. In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was playing Nigeria. Everywhere spirits were high. There was cheering, colour and flags.
It was a good day to explore the city. Then, a strange silence pervaded the city as the game came to its conclusion – Ethiopia had lost. But this is not the end of that story.

Unfortunately no, I didn’t get to the game as I had already made other plans, one day though. There were some very colourful characters around!
